Casa Sorrentino is just a short walk from the main square, in the road that crosses the island from the Port to its extreme point.
The Sorrentino family arrived in Ventotene in 1772 and, being one of the first families of colonists sent by King Ferdinand to repopulate the island, were assigned to a few hectares of land to farm and the house of Via Olivi.
The house, thanks to the love of the last descendants, still almost completely preserves the original structure, according to the engineering with which all the settlers' houses were built: a large room with a "pagoda" roof in which there was the "fornacette" kitchen, a fireplace, a double bed and beds for the little ones, and a smaller room with a "barrel" roof, which was called "alcove" and where the eldest of the family slept.
The largest room has a loft and today, on the inside, you can still see the trap door leading to the underground cistern. You don't have to cook with coal or to use "il tiro" – the pulley with which the cistern dug in the tuff once drew rainwater used to eat and drink – the house has now a fully equipped kitchen overlooking a quiet internal patio.
